THE CHORUS
THE CHORUS
Have you ever wondered what it is to be involved in an opera? It could be that you’re already involved in a choir, or maybe you just love to sing. This is an opportunity to find out what goes on and what is different.
Everything you need is going to be given to you. The opera is in Italian; you will be given a word-for-word translation along with a phonetic guide to pronunciation, we have also recorded the text so you can hear it spoken - singing in a foreign language can end up being incredibly liberating, you just don’t know it yet!
We will also take time to look at the story itself. Looking at how every decision we make affects our whole community. The chorus is pivotal to the story - they hold Idomeneo accountable when they are happy the opera is happy….they are not always happy though!
We can see operas as old stories that don’t resonate with our modern world, but, scratch the surface and you see all of humanity laid bare, set to astonishingly beautiful music that sees through all of us in a second. Sometimes realising that what we are working through is not unique to us can be very freeing.
There are also 10 small solos to be taken from the chorus, 4 sopranos, and 2 for all of the other parts, make sure you let me know if you would like to be considered for any of these. We will be hearing everyone and making those decisions nearer the time.
