Mozart wrote of Idomeneo: “I may have equaled it but never bettered it” - can you imagine? Idomeneo was the perfect vehicle for our first performance bringing together some of his greatest woodwind writing, sublime arias and fantastic choruses.

On the face of it, this is a story of Kings, Princes, battles, and deals with the gods - what on earth has that got to do with any of us? Just beneath the surface is the story of a father and a son - what does it take to be a parent? Would you risk the life of someone you loved for your own glory? And ultimately would you give up your crown for the greater good? These are all big questions but ultimately they are the questions that make us who we are.

Performing Idomeneo was an incredibly special, and memorable experience for our pupils and staff. They gained a huge amount from being involved. Having met the challenge of learning to sing eight choruses in Italian, our choir is now picking up repertoire more quickly and confidently than they’ve ever done before.
